Medical Oncology
Initial Consultation

Our goal is to educate and empower so that patients may make informed decisions regarding their cancer care.

During the course of your initial 90-minute consultation we will guide you through the developmental history of your cancer, evaluate areas of the skin that concern you, conduct a thorough review of medical records, discuss evidence-based treatment options, navigate immediate next steps in your care, assess hereditary risk factors for skin cancer, and counsel on environmental risk factors that may predispose to skin cancer.

In this initial consultation, every patient meets with Dr. Weight in order to review their diagnosis and treatment plan, ensuring that patients leave feeling informed and in control of their next steps.

Anti-Cancer Therapy

  • The Melanoma & Skin Cancer Institute oversees patients before, during, and after their cancer treatment. Our experts will determine the potential benefit of anti-cancer therapy as it relates to your specific diagnosis. If necessary, we will order and manage treatment for your cancer. We provide anti-cancer treatment in a comfortable and soothing environment.

Surgical Evaluation

  • While we do not perform surgery, we will provide a thorough assessment to determine the most important next steps in your care. If the next steps include surgery, we will refer you to an experienced surgeon that specializes in the treatment of skin cancer.

Genetic Risk Assessment

  • We will assess for hereditary risk factors that place you or your family at risk for the development of skin cancer and provide education around the utility of genetic testing. Additionally, we use personalized medicine to inform treatment decisions through genomic tumor testing when indicated.

Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are an essential component of anti-cancer care in the modern era, providing access to potentially life-saving treatment above and beyond the standard of care.

The Melanoma & Skin Cancer Institute offers clinical trials on a regular basis, which means we can provide treatments that are often only available in a handful of states, and we welcome patients from across the country to evaluate clinical trial opportunities.

Partnering with Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute gives our patients access to state-of-the-art anti-cancer therapies that can help improve outcomes while contributing to cancer research that can impact the future.

We are always interested in hearing from industry partners. Please contact us if you are a pharmaceutical representative or clinical research organization and you think your clinical trial might be a good option for our patients.

Patient & Caregiver Support

Living with and managing a cancer diagnosis can be stressful for the person living with it as well as for the loved-ones and caregivers who surround them.

For patients undergoing treatment, those who have survived cancer, and the caregivers who support them along their journey, our services include care coordination and navigation, survivorship care plans, financial support services, social work, peer-to-peer groups, and mentorship programs.
